The Port of Concarneau, Shipbuilding and Repair, a port in the Brittany region operated by CARENCO, unveils its new film dedicated to the ship lift and the wealth of its industrial infrastructure, which is unique in Brittany.
At the heart of the footage: the ship lift. There are just four of these in France. Offering better support for a ship’s structure than a mobile boat hoist, and more available than a dry dock, these advantages make it the equipment of choice for both scheduled maintenance stops and emergencies.
The three-masted barque, Le Français, is the ship featured in this film. The efficiency of her handling – taking into account her keel shape and wind load – makes it a regular user. Nothing moves inside. Doors and other systems remain operational. This is major difference from the potential deformations that could occur with slings of a mobile boat hoist of equivalent lifting capacity. Furthermore, the surrounding space is a field rather than the bottom of a dry dock. It enables large-scale work to be carried out with ease of access.
